Space Over Time

Published July 19, 2013 -- While in Switzerland photographing the Vancouver Police Pipe Band's participation in the Basel Tattoo, I pondered different ways to effectively communicate the efforts that go on behind the scenes.

Apart from travel fatigue and adjusting to foreign language/currency/food, the band also has a fair amount of equipment to deal with and an intense rehearsal schedule.

Yesterday, I followed them to Messe Hall 1 where they met with all the other pipe and drum bands for choreography.

They were expertly coached by Stuart Samson on how to create this year's formation.  Watch this 8 second time lapse movie summarizing a 2 hour rehearsal as it really shows how massive the rehearsal space is and how hard they all work to perfect the performance.
