3 Burnaby Photographers You Need to Know

Published November 22, 2021 - Great photographers tell great stories and for Burnaby’s own Jamie Poh, Anna Beaudry and Jillian Chateauneuf that is certainly the case. In addition to being award winning photographers and Burnaby neighbours, they are also good friends. With strong camaraderie, they often help each other on photo shoots and in image competitions. 

In early November, they were all very successful in a provincial image competition! They had multiple images selected for exhibition in the Professional Photographers of Canada’s BC Image Salon. The PPOC-BC exhibition showcases the exceptional skill and creativity that professionals bring to the medium of photography. Accredited PPOC photographers from across Canada competed in 22 different classes in the 76th annual image competition. Judging was based on photographic impact, vision, composition and technical excellence with accepted images then eligible for provincial awards.

"Hey I'm Jamie! It was a pleasant surprise to see my name pop up for Best in Class in Architecture as well as Fashion! “Raise the Roof” was shot on a trip to visit my family in Singapore. The image is a close up top the Esplanade, Singapore’s home for the performing arts. From further away, this building looks like the well loved fruit of the country, the durian. The second image “She is her own canvas” is of my sister. The ceremony concluded with both Jamie and Jillian being nominated for BC Photographer of the Year, won by Diane Hanna of Whistler, and Anna receiving the prestigious PPOC-BC Citation for Service Award for her years of service to the photographic community.
